Established in 1956, Lugansk State Medical University is an open institution that received university status in 1994. The institute has emerged rapidly over the years. In 1979, the institute began offering postgraduate programs and in 1983 it started training for pediatrics. The schools of pharmacy and dentistry were developed in 1998. The institute has operated several clinics in various medical colleges.
The institute's campus comprises three academic buildings with labs for scientific research, a facility for pharmacy instruction, a well-equipped dental clinic, and a center for medicine. The campus also features a library, fitness center, sports complex, a tennis court, cricket pitch, and residential halls for students along with Internet facilities. In addition, the campus maintains a technical center, two pumping stations, and a few transformer substations.
Students are provided with all the facilities required at the campus. They experience a calm learning environment. There are six faculties on the campus, namely the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Foreign Students, Department of Paediatrics, Pharmaceutical Faculty, the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies. All the fests, seminars, competitions, events, and quizzes conducted by the institute, are held within the campus.
The institute offers internship opportunities in various areas such as clinical oncology, neurology, traumatology, dentistry, radiology, psychiatry, emergency medicine, dermatology, internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, neonatology, and intensive therapy. The students are taught under experienced faculty members. Many industry professionals visit the institute for guest lectures, practical workshops, and interactive sessions. Presently, there are about 6,827 students at the institute.
